Our Focus Areas
Fresno Building Healthy Communities’ advocacy work focuses on the holistic well-being of our most vulnerable communities. A community’s pulse and health don’t only focus on one factor but a multitude of factors. Where a person lives, works, plays, what a person eats, and where a child studies all aspects into the overall health and well-being of our communities.
Land Use
We advocate for responsible land-use policies and practices that reflect stewardship of resources and recognize the interconnectedness of people and their environment.
Housing
We work to influence housing policy that results in quality, affordable, and accessible housing for working class people.
Outdoor Access
We promote outdoor access and recreation because we recognize the importance of joy in our overall well-being and the fundamental role parks, trails, and other green spaces play in creating healthy, vibrant communities.
Economic Development
We champion a democratic economy that is of the people, by the people, and for the people that in its fundamental design aims to meet the essential needs of all of us, balance human consumption, responds to the voices of regular people, and creates shared prosperity without regard to race, gender, national origin, or wealth.
Transportation
We work to advance transportation equity by encouraging systems that focus on addressing the mobility needs of people instead of the simple movement of cars. We are working to establish a transportation system that benefits all people and creates positive benefits for our environment.
