Calwa Park Renovation

About Calwa Park

Calwa park graphic.png

The Calwa Recreation and Parks District (Calwa Park) is a special district, founded in 1958, serving residents in the greater Calwa community. Calwa Park comprises 20 acres of park space, including the historical Calwa Rocket – a 26-foot-tall playground structure and the only one of its kind in Fresno, a dedicated community facility, four (4) sports fields, five (5) picnic shelters, and the only permitted graffiti art wall in central and northern California.

Calwa Park is governed by an elected five-member Board of Directors and is primarily funded by property taxes from owners within the district boundaries.

Through community engagement, residents voted to renovate Calwa Park to serve the Calwa neighborhood better. In community-based planning meetings, youth, seniors, and families voted to add these new features:

  • New construction of three playgrounds, a walking loop

  • New picnic and BBQ areas with shade structures

  • Outdoor fitness center area

  • Sensory-drought-tolerant demonstration garden

  • Open market plaza and art kiosks

  • Lighting and landscaping throughout the park improvement area

  • Renovate the existing snack bar and historic rocket ship sculpture

Residents of Calwa will soon be able to have a unique place to play, exercise, and gather.

Calwa Park's completion date is yet to be announced, but the exciting renovation is underway!

The park will be open seven days a week, from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm with no entry fees.

Calwa cherishes its historical park, and the community deserves a safe park for the community to call their own.
